Polish Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski said his country will soon start contributing to the Czech-led initiative for buying shells for Ukraine outside the European Union.
Warsaw plans to spend €50 million euros on the initiative in 2024 and another €50 million in 2025, Sikorski said in an interview with European Pravda published on Sunday.
Sikorski's comments came after reports that Poland has not yet contributed to the scheme despite multiple promises.
The minister noted some "temporary formal obstacles" to Poland taking part in the project, describing them as "technical, administrative, and legal issues related to the (Polish) State Agency for Strategic Reserves," Sikorski stated.
Czechia announced the initiative to purchase artillery shells for Ukraine jointly with partners earlier this year amid shortages on the frontlines with Russia. The first delivery of artillery shells from the initiative arrived in Ukraine in June.
