This review of Ukraine's premier legal directory "Ukrainian Law Firms. A Handbook for Foreign Clients," is written mainly with an eye to foreign investors interested in the reconstruction of Ukraine.

The 10 law firms covered individually here include Sayenko Kharenko, Asters, Integrites, Baker McKenzie, Avellum, Dentons, Kinstellar, Ilyashev & Partners, Equity and Everlegal.

Russia's 2022 invasion forever changed Ukraine, leaving its mark on every sector, institution, business and person.

The legal profession was no exception - it was overhauled by the fires of combat, international intrigue, gunboat diplomacy, fears of world famine, trade disputes among combatant nations and an intense outpouring of humanitarian concern.

Some lawyers picked up rifles and headed to the front, while others joined the millions of refugees fleeing Westward, and still others were moved enough to drop their practice and devote their lives to helping the victims of war.

New practice areas emerged amid legal wrangling over maneuvers such as the Black Sea Grain Initiative - a major global undertaking that appeared with the threat of world hunger - as well as widespread debt restructuring, the surge of charities and international trade disputes.
