Swedish defense equipment manufacturer Saab is considering starting production in Ukraine as the war boosted demand for military products, CEO Micael Johansson told Reuters on Wednesday.

"We have to help Ukraine build sovereign capacity and capabilities, so we need to have partnership with Ukrainian industry in Ukraine and also Ukrainian industry that has moved outside of Ukraine," Johansson stated. He said Saab is in talks with two or three companies on "how to establish local production."

The CEO highlighted the potential for collaboration with Ukrainian companies in advancing drone capabilities. He said Ukraine could serve as a supplier of munitions components and contribute to sensor technology development.

Johansson added that the arms industry is shifting from donation-based support to establishing direct partnerships with Kyiv.
