The European Investment Bank (EIB) is financing a €21.4 million upgrade of Dnipro's electric public transport fleet, with five locally manufactured trams now in service and further tram and trolleybus deliveries planned through 2027.
The five low-floor trams were manufactured by Ukrainian producer Tatra-Yug at its facilities in the eastern Ukrainian city, with up to 70% of their components sourced from Ukrainian suppliers, the EIB said in a press release. More than 100 Ukrainian companies are involved in the production process, according to Ukraine's Infrastructure Ministry.
The local-content component means part of the EIB financing is flowing through to Ukrainian manufacturers and suppliers, while further planned purchases create procurement opportunities for rolling-stock manufacturers, equipment suppliers and firms advising on infrastructure projects.
